2025 Hurricane Season Starts June 1

In 2024, five major U.S. hurricanes tore across more than a dozen states, leaving trails of destruction from Texas to Michigan. Over 200,000 hurricane related damage claims were filed with State Farm from the 2024 hurricanes. Customers received over $1.9 Billion from State Farm to help them recover and rebuild. The season officially started June 1 and was closely followed by Hurricane Beryl, the earliest Category 5 on record. The season lasted into October with Hurricanes Helene and Milton battering the east coast.

The damage wasn’t isolated to coastal communities. Many inland states saw flooding, wind damage, and widespread power outages—important reminders that severe weather risk extends far beyond hurricane prone states.

Hurricane Beryl generated over 33,000 claims primarily in Texas. Much later in the year, two significant back-to-back hurricanes Helene and Milton resulted in over 166,000 State Farm claims, primarily in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Florida. Hurricanes Francine and Debby impacted multiple other states. It was quite a year.

With nearly one million catastrophe claims handled in 2024, the highest volume in the past decade, State Farm is committed to being there for our customers when they need us most.

As a new hurricane season approaches in June, State Farm is reminding residents to have a plan in place and be prepared. Now is the time to meet with your insurance agent and review your coverages. It is also a good time to create or update your home inventory and have a disaster plan in place.
