Communication Through Technology

Five Atlanta State Farm® employees worked with refugee students at the International Student Center in Dekalb, Ga. They taught students STEM basics and communicated with them despite language barriers. More than 60 languages are spoken at the school, where students attend to learn to read, write and speak English before entering their regular schools.

The employees were tasked with teaching the students how to control a robot called Sphero SPRK. Programs can be created by drawing or using code on an app, depending on the student’s ability. The students learned how to program the Sphero to follow a pattern on the floor.
