As a result, its overall personal auto rates will drop an additional 2.6 percent. The total state-wide expected impact for State Farm Mutual by this rate decrease in Louisiana will be approximately $36.6 million. This is the fourth time in the last two years State Farm has lowered auto rates. The combined impact of these four reductions is a 10.4 percent rate reduction.

“We’re always evaluating how we can best serve our customers and are very pleased to be able to offer yet another rate decrease in Louisiana,” said State Farm Vice President of Agency Mark Cockerham. Cockerham adds, “Improving expenses and losses were important factors that supported our decision to make this rate change.”

Overall changes in premiums for individual motorists will vary depending on the specific details of an individual customer’s policy and chosen coverages. The proposed effective date for new and renewal business is November 25, 2019.

The TNC industry is rapidly changing the livery/taxi industry by using the latest mobile technology to facilitate rides for hire. With these new transportation services in the marketplace, drivers are exposed to new risks.

Insurance provided by TNCs may be limited in scope and coverage. Personal auto policies generally do not extend coverage to the use of personal cars as taxis or livery vehicles, including their use in TNC services.

To adapt to changing customer needs, beginning Monday, October 21, 2016, State Farm will offer a Transportation Network Company Driver Coverage endorsement in Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington and West Virginia.

The effective date for new and renewal for all states except GA: October 21, 2016. The effective date for new and renewal for GA: November 21, 2016

Ten jurisdictions obtained the endorsement earlier this year: Alabama, California, Colorado, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Tennessee and Wisconsin .

"Adapting and innovating to our customers' changing needs is critical," said Vicki Harper, State Farm Public Affairs Specialist. "This new product is an example of our commitment to our customers and provides them coverage, and peace of mind, when they use their personal cars to provide TNC services."

TNCs may provide high liability coverage limits while a paying passenger occupies the driver's vehicle or when the driver has been connected with a passenger and is on the way to pick that person up. But TNCs tend to provide a much lower limit of liability coverage when drivers are just available for hire and may not provide the drivers with any medical payments, comprehensive, or collision coverages at all. The TNCs may not be providing coverage for injuries to the driver or coverage for any damage to the driver's personal car.

The new, optional State Farm TNC Driver Coverage endorsement enables a policyholder to have his/her personal auto policy fill in the coverage gaps left by TNC-provided insurance. This cost-effective endorsement provides the driver with the full liability coverage limits carried on his/her auto policy during the period of time when the driver is available for hire, and provides the driver with all other coverages applicable to his/her auto policy during all periods of TNC driving.

Customers in these states who drive for a TNC should contact their local State Farm agent to learn more about the new State Farm TNC Driver Coverage endorsement.

<pp:caseid>127164</pp:caseid><pp:subtitle>There’s No Place Like Home</pp:subtitle>

After 112 days, 18 states and approximately 6,300 miles of bike riding, Eric McIntyre has finally ended the Pancreatic Cancer Victory Tour right where he started, in the comforts of New Orleans. “The best part of being home is being with Liz, eating her cooking, sleeping in my own bed and being with my cat and dog again.” Eric goes on to say that normal life stuff is “absolutely fabulous.”

The second half of Eric’s ride was a real challenge on him physically. Once he left Oregon and hit Southeast Washington, it was excruciatingly hot and dry with temps reaching as high as 120 degrees. “I wasn’t sure I was going to make it. I was in strictly survival mode during those three days of riding in the heat,” Eric recalls. But once out of the heat, Eric had eight rides where he clocked over 100 miles in a day, with his longest ride being 114 miles. Not too bad for a 58 year old grandfather.

High temperatures were just one obstacle he had to overcome during that last half; another were the road conditions. The last seven states that he rode through did not allow cyclists on the interstate, so rural highways and back roads were his only options. When we say back roads, we are talking about, in some cases, dirt and gravel farm roads that made riding quite difficult.

With high heat and poor riding conditions, Eric never once thought about quitting. At times he was concerned that his body might give out, but never once did he think about giving up. “There were too many reasons to keep riding. Several days I rode in honor and remembrance of people who had lost their battle [with Pancreatic Cancer], and that was too much motivation to think about quitting.” Eric was amazed by the strength he got from doing something he truly felt ordained to do. His purpose was far more important than quitting.

Eric’s ride didn’t only touch people across the country, but to date has also raised around $40,000 for the Lazarex Cancer Foundation and cancer research. “I’m not done. The ride might be over for now, but I am not done.” Eric explains that the relationships and awareness that the Pancreatic Cancer Victory Tour built are amazing and he plans to keep the momentum going.

When asked, “What’s next?” Eric responds with, “Liz is my largest priority. Being here for her is first and foremost.” They will continue to be there for others and stay open to opportunities to be of service to those fighting cancer. This tour opened the doors to many options and Eric and Liz will work to cultivate relationships so that others will be helped.

Eric is still recovering from the tour and reflects on the abundance of gifts he received along the way. Not just the gift of donations in many forms, but on the support, kindness and reaction of others. The Pancreatic Victory Tour was not a memorial, but a fight and celebration. It was a celebration of those who have fought or are fighting for their lives.

Eric started this tour wanting to change the trajectory of pancreatic cancer by bringing awareness and raising funds for research. He got much more than that. He also gave much more than that. The story of Liz and Eric McIntyre changed the lives of those that crossed their path and for that, many are very grateful.

story,Good Neighbors,Louisianna,LA,cancer,biking,stories

For nearly 15 years, this dog bite program has taught thousands of children dog safety. It all started with an old refrigerator box and the handy State Farm educational booklet “Fido – Friend or Foe?” Over the years, with the help of Carolyn’s dad, the puppets have earned a real stage and continue to develop their program. As a former school teacher, Carolyn feels right at home in front of 200 pre-K to first graders and loves carrying on this message year after year.

“It’s all about education and prevention. I’ve worked some really bad dog bite claims over the years, and we want to do our part to educate little ones on safety with dogs,” states Carolyn.

Careful Clara (Karen Hope), Safety Sam (Troy Alfred) and Watchful Willy (Barry Hunter) teach the kids all types of dog etiquette and safety. The kids learn how to let the dog smell their fist first like a “hand shake,” and how to roll up into a ball in case a dog does attack. With help from Cassandra Whitty and Marvin Snyder, the practice session helps to ensure that all the kids are prepared to interact safely with dogs. Karen, Troy, Barry, Cassandra and Marvin all know the facts about dog safety and share the knowledge they’ve learned on the job at State Farm.

Whether a dog is a family friend or a stray on the street, the kids of LaSalle Elementary leave the State Farm puppet show each year with knowledge that could save their life.
