State Farm Cuts Minnesota Auto Rates 7.5%

Driving behaviors across the country continue to evolve during the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on current trends, State Farm® is working to reduce auto insurance rates in Minnesota by 7.5%. This rate reduction will save 1.3 million State Farm customers a total of $66.5 million. This applies to current customers at policy renewal, as well as new and returning customers.

“Current State Farm driving data and claims experience show a considerable decline in miles driven and fewer accidents,” said Matt Steele. “As a result, we’re looking for ways to continue supporting our Minnesota customers while we monitor and adjust to trends.”

In addition to the auto rate reduction, the discount for participating in Drive Safe & Save™ is increasing to 10%, and empowers drivers to save more on their auto premiums through driving behaviors.

As part of a move to reduce auto rates nationally, State Farm has also recently filed rate reductions in Illinois and Kansas. State Farm reduced Kansas auto rates 9.3% totaling $32.9 million for 515,000 customers and in Illinois, State Farm reduced rates by 13.7% totaling $320 million for 2.8 million customers.

Tennessee Drivers See Second State Farm® Auto Rate Cut This Year

Once again, State Farm is cutting auto rates in Tennessee. Those insured with the company, or those shopping for insurance, will see a decrease. The overall personal auto rate will drop by 2.8 percent. Statewide, customers of the state's largest insurer will realize total savings of approximately $24.6 million.

The effective date for new and renewal business is Sept. 30. The previous rate change in Tennessee was effective in April 2019. Combined, the two auto rate decreases will save Tennessee customers $68.5 million.

Auto Insurance Rates Cut for Louisiana State Farm® customers

State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, the largest auto insurer in Louisiana and in the nation, has filed to cut its rates once again in Louisiana. As a result, its overall personal auto rates will drop an additional 2.6 percent. The total state-wide expected impact for State Farm Mutual by this rate decrease in Louisiana will be approximately $36.6 million. This is the fourth time in the last two years State Farm has lowered auto rates. The combined impact of these four reductions is a 10.4 percent rate reduction.

“We’re always evaluating how we can best serve our customers and are very pleased to be able to offer yet another rate decrease in Louisiana,” said State Farm Vice President of Agency Mark Cockerham. Cockerham adds, “Improving expenses and losses were important factors that supported our decision to make this rate change.”

Overall changes in premiums for individual motorists will vary depending on the specific details of an individual customer’s policy and chosen coverages. The proposed effective date for new and renewal business is November 25, 2019.
