State Farm Remains Committed to California Recovery
Today, State Farm General (SFG) announced 5 commitments to its customers affected by the Los Angeles Wildfires. These efforts are in addition to continued care for customers from the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires. To help with this work, Vice President Axel Del Cid will lead California Customer Relations for SFG.
The commitments will focus on:
Assigning single points of contact. Making the complex simpler: fewer handoffs, fewer repeated explanations, and seamless support – backed by the resources of the largest claims force in the industry. Customers receive that person’s direct contact information, so they know who to call with questions.
Regularly communicating with customers. Customers need clear, consistent, plain-language communication.
Helping customers rebuild stronger and prepare for the next wildfire. Recovery is not just about replacing what was lost. It is also about helping families rebuild in ways that can better withstand the next fire.
Protecting the financial strength needed to keep our promises. Customers need an insurer that can be there not only after this wildfire, but after the next one as well.
Being a long-term partner in recovery and community rebuilding. Recovery does not end when the fire is out or when the first payment is made. Our commitment is to support customers not just in the immediate aftermath, but throughout the process of recovery.
These commitments build on the work SFG has already done to help people recover after the fires. SFG has handled 11,300+ claims and paid customers more than $5.7 billion, making it the costliest disaster in State Farm’s history. SFG insured more homes affected by the fires than any other insurer and has logged more than two million customer contacts since.
“We are proud of our response and of the people behind it. Claims professionals, agents, and support teams have worked long hours - often away from their own families - to inspect losses, answer questions, issue payments, support temporary living arrangements, and help customers navigate one of the most severe wildfire events in California history,” said Dan Krause, President of State Farm General. “We recognize that in an event of this scale, a perfect process is nearly impossible and some customers understandably and unfortunately experienced some frustration. Real progress has been made toward helping people recover and we remain committed to addressing remaining customer concerns.”
The 5 commitments compliment ongoing work happening on the ground in California, where more than 3,500 SFG customers completely lost their homes in the fires. As is typical after wildfires, rebuilding takes time and SFG expects to have claims professionals in Los Angeles for the foreseeable future working with customers, some of whom are still making decisions about recovery.
SFG has also identified ongoing needs in the community that go beyond helping individual customers recover. Following more than $4 million in donations to local organizations since last year, State Farm® continues to consult with partners on the ground to assess where additional assistance may be needed.
SFG regularly conducts reviews of its claim-handling and gathers customer feedback in an ongoing effort to improve as it helps people recover after disasters. This process complements the continuing training and coaching claim professionals receive as they help customers.
The 5 commitments also highlight SFG’s ongoing efforts to protect the financial strength needed to keep promises and help create a sustainable insurance market in California. SFG continues to be the largest private homeowners insurer in California.
