LA County Lawsuit Does Not Reflect State Farm’s Wildfire Response

State Farm General strongly disagrees with Los Angeles County’s characterization of our wildfire claims response. We will review the lawsuit and respond through the appropriate legal process. Wildfire survivors deserve support, clear answers, and a fair claims process.

Insurance practices in California are regulated by the California Department of Insurance, and State Farm cooperated fully with the Department’s review of our wildfire claims response.

Our focus remains on helping customers recover. State Farm has paid more than $6.2 billion on claims related to the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, including approximately $1 billion for smoke-related damage, and has closed about 78% of claims. We continue working directly with customers whose claims remain open and evaluating each claim based on the facts of the loss and the coverage provided by the customer’s policy.

At State Farm, we’ve proudly served California families since 1928, helping customers protect what matters most. We understand how important it is for customers to have reliable coverage to help them recover when the unexpected happens.

We want to offer our full range of insurance products to even more Californians. In recent years, challenges in the California insurance market have made it harder for us to do so. Because of market conditions, we’ve had to pause offering new homeowners policies for now. This was not an easy decision, but it was necessary to help ensure we are able to continue meeting the needs of our current customers.

We know this is a tough time for many people. The insurance market is facing an availability and affordability crisis, and too many Californians are struggling to find the protection they need. We’re committed to working through these challenges alongside customers, regulators, policymakers and industry leaders. Together we can build a safer and more secure future for California.
